2019 CHOP Research Institute Poster Day and Scientific Symposium

In 2019, the CHOP Research Institute will bring together its largest community-building events, CHOP Research Poster Day and the Scientific Symposium, to create a two-day celebration of all-things-research. Poster Day, normally held in February of each year, will take place on May 21. The annual Scientific Symposium will take place on the following day, May 22.

This change is intended to streamline and enrich these CHOP community-based events. Participants can expect more opportunities to interact and to engage with colleagues at both CHOP and the University of Pennsylvania. Scientific presentations, receptions and award ceremonies will be supplemented with additional time to network and celebrate a year of research and innovation.  The entire CHOP community is invited to attend.

Poster Day - Tuesday, May 21, 2019

This year marks the 28th anniversary of CHOP Research Poster Day, an annual celebration of the groundbreaking research happening throughout Children's Hospital. This event includes poster presentations from researchers-in-training who will share their exciting discoveries with the CHOP community. Please join us in acknowledging the valuable contributions of the next generation of pediatric scientists and clinicians.

Scientific Symposium - Wednesday, May 22, 2019

The theme of the 2019 symposium is “Big Data,” and will focus on the advances that CHOP researchers have made in the booming area of genomics and data science. Our keynote speaker, Olga G. Troyanskaya, PhD, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University, will present “Decoding the genome: deep learning approaches for uncovering molecular basis of disease.” Yi Xing, PhD, Director of the Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, will chair the Scientific Symposium.
